Disc Downtown is bringing Disc Golf back to the streets of Grand Rapids in this second annual tournament. This year however, they’re constructing this one-day temporary urban course in the sunny days of summer.
Those that experienced this event in 2017 know to register early for this one-of- a-kind tournament but for those not familiar with downtown disc golf, it’s exactly that. Yes, downtown disc golf…as in closed streets, Chainstars™ in major intersections and under 8 lanes of thundering US-131 traffic.
Disc Downtown is a non-profit, charitable organization that focuses on introducing our beloved sport to those in urban settings. To do this, we shut down streets, create prototype discs by Discraft, hand ’em out freely to the general public and bang the chains.
Here are the tournament details….
PDGA SANCTIONED XC-TIER
PROFESSIONAL DIVISION – TEAM REGISTRATION $100
MPO – Cash payouts per PDGA guidelines. Scores do not affect PGDA rating. However, points will apply toward PDGA player points.
AMATEUR DIVISION – TEAM REGISTRATION $100
MA1 – Merchandise payouts per PDGA guidelines provided by Disc Baron, on site and online. Scores do not effect PGDA rating however, points will apply toward PDGA player points.
FAMILY FUN DIVISION
The Family Fun Round will open the course to the public for play with “urban-safe” tournament discs for $20 each. Course guides and players are welcome to play though the course another time until course dismantling.
Disc Downtown Peoria

Disc Downtown Peoria will kick off the 2018 Ledgestone Insurance Open, the largest, most followed disc golf tournament in the world. Complete in professional, amateur and family fun divisions, Disc Downtown says, anyone can play!
Disc Downtown offers the ability to reach a new generation of atypical athletes. The creative marketing strategy is captivating the over 350,000 active members of the disc golf community while targeting an untapped urban audience. We invite you to join us August 8th in downtown Peoria as we bang chains, and build relationships and connect with the community.
